Chapter 11 – Creating your goals

When creating your objectives, keep in mind that most people are over-cautious. Why is that? Because they don’t believe they are worth anything. Their self-image is rock bottom.

When we go into an interview most of us are happy to be there and are more than willing to undercut our salary to get the job. But what we fail to understand is that the company doing the hiring might be willing to pay us way more because they want someone that is competent and professional. If you are good at what you do and would be an asset to the company, then they should pay you what you are worth. If you ask for more than they are offering, then they will tell you what they are offering, but if you ask for less then that is what they will give you.

No one is going to tell you that you asked for to little, so don’t do it. You need to know what top people in your position are being paid and then go in with a salary request that you believe you are worth, and don’t underestimate your value to the market place.

We all know most people hate their jobs, the main reason is probably because they feel they are being underpaid for what they are delivering to the company. But if that is the case, it’s their own fault, they accepted or asked for that salary.

The other thing to consider is that when we ask for a lower salary than the company is willing to pay. The interviewer may think that your are not at the level of the person they are looking for, so you may not get the job.

If you go in higher than what they were going to offer, the interviewer will be saying, I wish I could offer you more but, this is what we are offering. They will believe you are worth more.
